My Groundhog Day After-After Challenge Post!

Confused by that title? Don't worry, it's simple. Kansas City Kristal who did the 21-day Organizing challenge (see my sidebar) like I did is having an After-After party!  This is where we can link and post photos of how the things we organized in the challenge are doing now. I figured it sounded fun and a lot of mine are much better now, and some are ..not so much.

So, here's my After and After-After shots!

First up, the Freezer
After

After-After
Not much difference. I did take my Tupperware bread keeper that was under the kitchen sink (washed it really well) and now use it in the freezer door to keep bags of veggies from sliding under the bungee cord.

Then there's the Fridge
After

After-After
Same, just emptier I guess heh. As for the baskets, people have gotten used to them, and I love how they immediately let me know when we're low on something.  I don't have to get down on the floor and search through stuff to see if there's a half a bag of shredded cheese hiding in the back. NO ONE puts an open drink in there now. It's awesome.  It's like they know better than to upset Mom by spilling something in the clean fridge LOL!

The Hallway (coat/backpack area)
After

After After
Don't look at the filthy carpet. There was an accident with cat litter and the kid who was to clean it up can't vacuum apparently.  But this is how it looks with all 3 kids' things on it. Not too bad. They're a lot better about putting things there now.  Making habits!!

The junk drawer!

After After
More stuff getting added, but it's staying neat. The containers are wonderful. Also now that batteries have a home, I can see when we get low on something.. well it's a given that we always need AA for the freaking Wii remotes. Going to get a battery charger and special batteries for it with the tax refund.

After-After
I moved things around and exchanged containers. The green crate is now in my bathroom.  This 2 level bin was better in this space since they have a lot more stuff to hold. I can never keep that feminine product stuff bin filled. Having 3 teen girls (even if one just visits) can really add up in some stuff heh.

Then the laundry room
After

After After
Yeah... did I mention my dryer hasn't worked for almost a month? The box holds a cat that followed Rhiannon home and now keeps me company in the office/laundry room. That top shelf is cluttered looking, but functional. It holds things that are drying like the stuffed animal, pillow and shoes. The bin holds seasonal and giveaway clothes til I can sort them later, also light bulbs and flashlights. I'm making my own home made laundry detergent again so the supplies for that are in the back and the detergent is in the ice cream bucket. And there's a container for cleaning rags. Oh the little purple basket is for odd socks. This weekend I'm getting rid of ALL odd socks and buying the whole family all new socks with the tax refund. It will be glorious!

So my master bathroom under-sink

After After
The green crate from the girls' bathroom fit perfectly in here. Also, both bathrooms now have glass cleaner so I can do the mirrors when I think of it without having to go get cleaner and get sidetracked.

The pantry!

After After
I love that I found bins that fit perfectly in the bottom for onions and potatoes. The cereal shelf has morphed into a "kids' shelf".  So anything I get for snacks or their breakfast or just isn't off-limits can go there and they know they can have it. We keep the grocery list inside the door now so it doesn't clutter the outside of it and we can quickly jot down anything we finish off or think of.  The pen sits right near it on a shelf.

Changed out the container holding vases which made more room for a box of smaller trash bags. Extra paper towels go in the crate with the bulk cleaning items.

That's not all the challenges, but it's the bigger ones I think and I didn't have time to take other pictures. So this is it.

I have been working on the Keepsakes and I am so glad I did.  It's turning out wonderfully and I found things I'd forgotten about. Master closet is still awaiting me to have a day where I can take things to the charity store or the storage unit. I did go through the big tub of papers and consolidated it down so that's good. Photos will probably just have to wait til some night after I get off work and I get the desire to do them.  I have the boxes at least so I'm ready to take it on.

I've raved about the 21-day Organizational Challenge at A Bowl Full of Lemons so much, but seriously it's true... my house is organized and CLEAN.  My kitchen is actually CLEAN. Y'all saw my fridge before right?  Yeah imagine the rest of the space... it was bad, cause I was in a bad place in my head...
I'm even doing the Flylady thing again!  My sink has been shining every night and just about all the time since I got my fridge clean.. the rest of the kitchen just got clean and stayed clean. :)  And Monday I did the Weekly Home Blessing for the first time ever!  And I joined Flylady in 2002!
I think I'm about ready to start Kelly's missions now too!

Life is good, I just REALLY hope it's going to stay this way for a while! :)

  1. Yay for keeping things up! :) You are doing a great job! :) I'm back on the flylady bandwagon myself. Not geting the updates, but keeping myself on the adjusted-flylady-esque schedule I made for myself. It's so nice to just be able to do the chores I have listed and not have to worry so much about tidying when people are coming! :)

  2. Hi!

Hey are the pop bottles of water in your bathroom cabinet for emergency flushing? Just wondering... our park we live in is just notorious for turning off the water to repair this or that aging water main and we finally had to resort to stashing a couple big juice jugs of water in there so that if it went off, we were good to go for a few gatherings up (wink wink) of our ah, wee and all. (We would use the hippy method... yellow-mellow, brown-flushdown.... but the stored jugs could get us through a good 24 hours if we had too....)

All your effort looks awesome! Keep it up!!!!

  3. Sherri, yes exactly! I'm hoping to get several bottles full and stashed in each bathroom as well as having jugs of drinking water and washing up water in the kitchen for just in case there's a water outtage. It's not so bad in this park, but in the one we lived in before, they always turned ours off when it was supposed to be the neighbors because the cutoff valves were in weird places.
    And thanks for the comment!!

  4. Awamiba, yeah I love the feeling of knowing the house is pretty much always "company ready", cause we deserve to live in a clean house too, not just visitors :)

  5. THANK YOU for posting! I was a little bummed about the turnout for our AFTER-AFTER party, but we really benefit, so YAY, US! I lol'd when I saw your freezer bungee! I love that you are so inventive/creative in making things work! Thanks for sharing and everything still looks good and seems like you are improving further along the way. Good job!

  6. Thanks Kristal and yeah YAY US! :)
The bungees used to make me crazy and I wanted a new fridge, but it's so nice and clean now, I've decided the bungees are fine and there's no need to replace what isn't broken! :) Just saved me about $500 :D
