Those of you readers who have been around a while, you may know that I moved my desk from the bedroom to the laundry room. Let me tell you, it didn't look that neat for long either...

That pile of papers and junk is embarrassing I admit, but I keep it real on this blog. I know I'm not alone. There are tons of people out there with messy desks LOL.
So, anyway, now the desk and my "office" is moving once again. Being in the laundry room has been great for my eyes and letting Hubby sleep, but actually not as great as I imagined for doing laundry. I used to fold clothes as soon as I took them out of the dryer. Now I don't really have anywhere to do that (see the messy desk) and so I just take them out of the dryer, throw them in a basket and then throw them on the loveseat in my bedroom. It's horrible, let me tell you. But it's not laundry that's really making me move,... it's my family. Back in this little cubicle type office area, I am completely isolated from my kids and the main activities of the house. Now, some people would say that's good since I work online and can't be disturbed etc, but to be honest, I am only at work for a few short hours before the kids and hubby go to bed anyway. If I can be more of a part of the family during those hours then I will try to. If work is especially stressful or busy, then I will put my headphones on and the kids will be taught not to bother me that night. It's been really bad being back in this cubby on my days off. I spend a lot of time on my computer, but I don't necessarily want to be hidden away from the world while on it.
So, where am I moving it? Well... we're going to get a little creative in my kitchen. See the kitchen is a typical basic kitchen for a singlewide mobile home. Actually it's the barest most bachelor-type kitchen I've ever seen. But anyway, it's got the counters, stove, sink and fridge all on one side and then there is the big open area where a dining table is supposed to go. Well of course as I have shown already our dining table is HUMONGOUS and doesn't fit there well as far as I am concerned. So it's in the living room since that room is so big. So it's half living room, half dining room. So ANYWAY, back to the kitchen. That other weird side of the kitchen has been really neglected lately and it's been bugging me a lot. I've changed furniture around quite a few times since we moved in 1 year ago. Finally after we took our Christmas tree down, I settled on the antique buffet against that wall with the antique china cabinet next to it and then the dining table in the window. Like so:
Here's a pic of the buffet to see how neglected it really is.
See those dishes, yes those are my Christmas dishes still all piled up and messy. I can't find a box to store them in and I always forget to buy one when I go out. Yeah it's after Valentines Day. I'm well aware.
So, what I have planned is to move the bookshelf at the far end of the dining table to that wall on the other side of the TV. Then, move the china cabinet to where the bookshelf was, then...stay with me now... turn the buffet to face the dining table. The chest freezer will go back into the laundry room. Then that wall where the buffet is currently will be where I put my desk. Here's a diagram I made of how it'll be when it's done.
Yeah it'll feel weird and closed in at first I am sure, but I am hoping it will do something else. I think turning the buffet like that will help define the dining area even more. And while it closes off the kitchen even more than it is now, I don't think it'll be too bad. Visually it's still quite open since it's not like I'm building a wall there or anything. I'll redo the top of the buffet of course and finally put away my Christmas dishes. I feel like doing a little decorating anyway. I'm hoping Spring is going to be here soon!
So, anyway, that's what I'll be doing soon. Hubby was supposed to be off work tomorrow and we were going to move stuff together, but now he has to work 9am-9pm and is off on Wednesday instead. Maybe I'll wait. Maybe I'll do it without him. Not sure yet.

I love moving the furniture around in my house. Sometimes I just need a change. I think you'll like it once everything is moved and you've had a chance to decorate it the way you want.
ReplyDeleteYour diagram is neat- thanks for sharing.
Patty...girl I think this will work for you...I love your side board its so pretty my friend..I pray all is well in your world today and that 2010 will be a GREAT year for you....Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies!! I have moved it now and I love it. Will post pics soon!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE that you've got Hatter from Alice as your screensaver!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha I wondered if anyone even noticed that. I had that one about a month. I changed it now. It's the look Connor gives Abby when she goes to see him in Lester's flat, the episode after "The Kiss". Right before she tells him she doesn't want things to get weird (I could have SMACKED her for that lol!) Anyway, I think it's such a HOT scene. He's older and is wearing that tight black Tshirt and the red hoodie, and doesn't look like the old geeky Connor anymore. I just loved how he really transformed. ((I got it bad LOL))
ReplyDeleteI totally need to do a diagram like that for my space! how freakin helpful that must be!
